The name Frey is actually a title that means "lord", his oldest name is Ingwaz and he is associated with everything that has something to do with fertility, especially the weather.
Archeologists have found idols of Frey with a big phallus that was considered a fertility symbol, his service was performed by women and they often had an erotic character, he was also called upon for a fertile marriage.
During spring Frey marries Gerda ("Earth"), which symbolizes the thawing and fertilization of the earth, it is believed that this was represented by ritual sexual intercourse in ceremonies for Frey.
Frey was considered to be a friendly person who prefers peace above war, though he does not fear war because he is one of the best warriors among the gods, he also is the ruler of the Alfen in whose realm (Alfheim) he lives.
Frey rides in a chariot that is pulled by two golden boars (Gullinbursti and Slidrugtanni) and he posesses a magical ship named Skidbladnir, which he can fold and put in his pocket.
He also owned a sword that could fight on it's own but he traded it for his wife Gerd, a decision that will force him to fight unarmed at Ragnarök, because of this he will be the first one to die in the Last Battle; he will be killed by the Fire Giant Surt.
The center of Frey's worship was at the city of Uppsala in Sweden, the Ingwaz rune was also connected to him.
