COME IN 0-TWO

Not
to be outdone, the GARDS (see more about the GARDS) continue to work on new
antenna concepts too. This month, our feature article is about a new deviced
called the "TeslaVert". Actually, not so entirely new when considering
the device designed and developed by Werner Hödlmayr, DL6NDJ, incorporates the
Tesla Coil that arrived on the scene near the turn of the past century. This
device by Werner is a beautiful piece of work as one can see from the graphic
here and on the front cover this month. In a timely fashion, Werner has come up
with his TeslaVert version as a compact antenna contender for 160 meters.
The TeslaVert has really generated some excitement within the GARDS and several members are planning projects for January 2002 to be followed by more testing and articles about its performance. In this month’s issue of antenneX, Werner presents an article about this initial design for 160 and moreover, GARDS’ member Dave Cuthbert, WX7G has gone to great effort to simulate the TeslaVert and describes his results in a companion article in this same issue (see index below).
At the moment, Werner has the device located indoors at his home and is enjoying many QSOs on 160. But, as soon as the weather warms up in Germany, Werner plans to take the TeslaVert outside to some unobstructed locations for more extensive practical clinical testing.

| The "TeslaVert" is not so entirely new when considering the device designed and developed by Werner Hödlmayr, DL6NDJ, incorporates the powers of Tesla Coil that arrived on the scene near the turn of the past century. Borrowing from traditional science to make yet a more advanced antenna design, this device by Werner is a beautiful piece of work as one can see on the front cover this month and in the feature article this month. In a timely fashion for 160, Werner has come up with his TeslaVert version as a compact antenna contender for 160 meters. His early results have been most encouraging. The New Year is expected to explode with new experiments inspired by Werner's clever design. At the same time, another tribute is paid to the memory of Nikola Tesla (1856-1943) who made such an impact while here on our planet. |

| The TeslaVert antenna designed and built by Werner Hödlmayr is certainly one handsome and very interesting antenna! Dave set to work modeling the TeslaVert to see how it works and what the performance potential might be. Since this antenna utilizes a Tesla coil there is an aura of mystery about it. After factoring in various environmental influences, Dave chose to model the TeslaVert using conventional EM theory and to see how the model agrees with actual measurements. Dave's follow-up project is to build one and then compare actual results to the simulation. |
