From Feed Line No. 5 WARDENCLYFFE PROPERTY UPDATEShortly after the turn of the century the inventor Nikola Tesla undertook the construction of a 94 x 94 foot brick building near the rural community of Shoreham, New York on the North Shore of Long Island. Over the course of the following decade this became the site of intensive radio propagation research directed towards development of a large prototype world radio broadcasting facility. In 1917 the property was foreclosed upon and the property changed hands. In 1994, after years of commercial use by various manufacturing entities, it became apparent the latest owners, Agfa, Division of Miles, Inc., were contemplating divestment of the property. It is in light of this truly unique opportunity to aquire and preserve the historic Tesla laboratory that on June 19, 1995 the Tesla Wardenclyffe Project, Inc. filed Articles of Incorporation. As more and more commercial and residential development takes place around the country, greater importance becomes attached to the preservation of such rare sites as Wardenclyffe for the benefit of the present and future generations. To fulfill this mandate, the Tesla Wardenclyffe Project is looking forward to the placement of the power-plant/office building and tower foundation on both the New York State and National Registers of Historic Places. Once an adequate state of physical preservation has been secured and the building is stabilized, further steps will be taken to develop a visitor reception center, full state-of-the-art science museum facilities and a Tesla research library and historical archive. Are you interested in learning more about this new Tesla organization? Perhaps you are wondering how you can be of assistance in the effort to assure preservation of the historic Tesla laboratory and increase general awareness of the good Doctor's engineering legacy. If so, you are invited to send your letters of inquiry to the Tesla Wardenclyffe Project, Inc. — P.O. Box 990, Shoreham, NY 11786 — and your name will added to the TWP mailing list. |
